Sparks, Mystics Game Preview

The visiting Los Angeles Sparks (19-8) take on the Washington Mystics (16-10) tonight as the Sparks hope to sweep the Mystics in this season series.

Los Angeles had home advantage when they defeated Washington in their previous two meetings, back on May 19 and July 2. In the latter match-up, Candace Parker finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds after her team trailed 47-30 at halftime. With a 2-0 season series lead, the Sparks look to cap off their third and final meeting of the Mystics with a win, despite coming off a loss to the New York Liberty. Sunday’s 83-69 defeat gave the Sparks their second loss of three games on a five-game road trip. Parker finished with 14 points going 4 for 12 from the field, while Odyssey Sims tallied 18 points in the Sparks’ loss.

Meanwhile, Washington is coming off two straight victories at home as they aim to avoid being swept by the Sparks tonight, and lock in a ticket to the playoffs. Just 1½ games ahead of the Liberty for fourth place in league standings, the Mystics are going for their third straight win in a four game home-stand. The top four teams receive a bye into the second round of the playoffs. Despite another ‘rain’ delay from a leaky roof, the Mystics were able to pour on the offense against Indiana and sail to a 100-80 victory. Krystal Thomas scored a season-high 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, and Emma Meesseman finished with 15.

Check out tonight’s match-up on ESPN 2 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
