WNBA Finals Best of Five Series

In an exciting fashion, Game 1 of the 2017 WNBA Finals did not disappoint, as the Minnesota Lynx and Los Angeles Sparks rivalry saga continues. As expected, the defending champs of L.A., came ready to do just that…defend. But the Sparks were also well prepared on the offensive end coming right out and pouncing on the Lynx in a 28-2 run in the first quarter. Not knowing what hit them, Minnesota would have to quickly gather themselves, or this was going to be an ugly showing in front of their home crowd.

Remaining poised, the Lynx did just that as they dug their way out of the 26-point pit, taking the lead 84-83 with just 6.5 seconds left to play. Seconds away from victory and the largest playoff comeback in WNBA history, Minnesota could not hold it down on the defesive end, as Sparks guard Chelsea Gray created space on the game winning step-back jumper, to seal the deal.

Sparks win, 85-84. What a game!

Coming up clutch for her squad, Gray finished with a career-high 27 points, while Candace Parker added a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds. Despite an amazing, nail-biter of a comeback, the Lynx cannot fall behind in Game 2 the way they did Sunday. The Lynx did not grab a single rebound in the entire first quarter, and took more than eight minutes to get the MVP – Sylvia Fowles – her first shot. Maya Moore scored 27 points and was instrumental in Minnesota’s comeback on both ends of the floor. Fowles finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds, while Seimone Augustus added 19 points. With high expectations for both teams, it is going to take a team effort from these powerhouse squads in their battle for the 2017 WNBA title.

Catch Game 2 on ESPN 2.
