Magicians Open 2017-18 Season, With Exhibition Game

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — LeMoyne-Owen College (LOC), is the first, and only HBCU (Historically Black College and University) in Memphis, TN. Home of the Magicians!

Tomorrow night, it begins.

That’s right, the Magicians Men’s Basketball team kick-off their season with an exhibition game Thursday, Nov. 2, against the University of Memphis. The Tigers host LeMoyne-Owen for the eighth exhibition game between the two programs.

This match-up is the eighth meeting between the Magicians and the Tigers, with the previous seven encounters coming in exhibition play. The two programs last saw each other in the 2015-16 season, where Memphis posted a 107-88 win over the Magicians.

With bragging rights on the line for the two Memphis squads, both teams will be looking to instill confidence going into the regular season and conference play. It’s also a good chance to get a feel for where team chemistry is and how players are gelling on the court.

Fun Fact:
  • Thursday’s match-up may bring back memories of the 1970s for both programs. Tigers fans may recall the program’s magical run to the 1973 NCAA title game. Two years later, the Magicians pulled some “magic” of their own, winning the 1975 NCAA Division III title. LeMoyne-Owen is the only school in the state of Tennessee to win an NCAA basketball crown at any level. (Courtesy/
