LeMoyne-Owen with Back-to Back Wins

Memphis, Tenn., — The Magicians of LeMoyne-Owen College (LOC) finished a two game home stand with a 65-49 victory against the Spring Hill College (SHC) Badgers on MLK Day. The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) win against the fellow West Division opponent moved LeMoyne-Owen to 6-10 overall, and 2-8 in conference play.

Throughout the first half, the Badgers and the Magicians kept each other on their toes, with SHC leading 30-28 at the half. In hopes of extending their slim lead, the Badgers never got too far away from the Magicians, who had a few magic tricks up their sleeves, including a steal by Bronx native Jaequan Brown that led to a bucket for LOC’s Aston Morton to tie the game 45-45, with 6:46 remaining.

The Magicians would force 19 turnovers and come up with nine steals as they went on to stretch out a 55-47 cushion, and earn the 65-49 win. Senior Walter Massey led SHC with 14 points and 10 rebounds while William Loyd, added 11 points on the evening for the Badgers.

Reshun Ellis paced the Magicians with a game-high 30 points and Demba Konate hauled down 12 rebounds to go with a 10-point performance as LOC shot 40.4% (19-47) from the floor and 40.9% (9-22) from 3-point distance. The Magicians lost the rebounding war 32-28, but shot 72% (18-25) from the free throw line.

LeMoyne-Owen men’s basketball returns to action Saturday, January 20, when they visit Tuskegee University for a 3:00 PM tip-off.
