Dream Overcome Late Push By Indiana

Indianapolis, Ind., – With the season series knotted up at 1-1, the Indiana Fever know they are capable of beating the Atlanta Dream. In Sunday’s battle however, the Fever had lapses where they weren’t efficient that led to them having to battle from behind.

Victoria Vivians kicked off the game with an opening statement three, that set the tone for a career-high night. Atlanta would have an answer of its own though as guard Brittney Sykes poured in 18 first half points to give the Dream the 50-33 lead at halftime.

Late in the third with the Fever still trailing, Vivians turned up the heat, stroking not one, but two three-pointers followed by a long two to give Indiana a burst of energy as they fought to stay in the game. Candice Dupree and Natalie Achonwa pitched in as well hitting key shots and getting to the line to aid in the rally. The Dream’s Tiffany Hayes would have a hot second half shooting 7-of-9 from the field to finish with 19 points and six rebounds off the bench.

After four, the Dream would come out on top 87-83, to take the season series lead. Sykes would finish with 20 points for the Dream and Angel McCoughtry added 15 points in the win. Vivians would record a new career-high 27 points and grab seven rebounds to go with it. Dupree added 17 points, while Achonwa and Erica Wheeler pitched in 16 and 12 points, respectively.

“It was a tale of two halves,” Head Coach Pokey Chatman stated.

“We need to play the entire game like we played the second half,” Dupree added.

With a lot of the season left and new addition Cappie Pondexter added to the squad, the future looks bright for Indiana as the Fever continue to develop. Indiana will travel to Minnesota for a Tuesday night matchup with the Lynx.
